Use Cases

2x Upscale — Balanced Quality

Doubles both dimensions. A 1000x1000 image becomes 2000x2000. A practical balance of quality and file size for many use cases including photos, art, and web graphics.

4x Upscale — Maximum Size

Quadruples both dimensions. A 1000x1000 image becomes 4000x4000. Useful when you need a much larger output for large-format printing or ultra-high-resolution displays.

Compare & Choose

Not sure which scale factor to use? Try both and compare. Start at 2x first, then try 4x if you need more resolution.

How It Works

1

Upload Your Image

Drop any JPG, PNG, or WebP file into the tool.

2

Choose 2x or 4x

Select your scale factor. 2x doubles dimensions, 4x quadruples them.

3

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 2x and 4x upscaling?
A 2x upscale doubles width and height, resulting in 4 times the total pixels. A 4x upscale quadruples width and height, giving 16 times the total pixels. For example, a 500x500 image becomes 1000x1000 at 2x or 2000x2000 at 4x.
Which scale factor should I choose?
2x is recommended for most use cases — it produces sharp results with reasonable file sizes. Choose 4x when you need maximum resolution, such as large-format printing or cropping into a specific region of the image.
Does 4x upscaling take longer?
Yes. 4x produces 16 times the pixels compared to the original, so it requires more processing time and memory. On most devices it still completes in a few seconds, but very large source images at 4x may be slow.
Can I upscale the same image multiple times?
You can, but upscaling an already-upscaled image compounds quality loss. It is better to upscale the original at 4x once than to upscale at 2x twice. Always start from the highest-quality source available.
Is 2x or 4x enough for printing?
For printing, you need roughly 150-300 DPI. A 1000x1500 photo at 2x becomes 2000x3000, which prints well at 10x15 inches (200 DPI). At 4x it becomes 4000x6000, enough for a 20x30 inch print. Calculate based on your target print size.
