Minimally. The encryption metadata adds a few kilobytes at most. The encrypted PDF is typically within 1-2% of the original file size. You will not notice a meaningful difference even with large documents.
Can I remove the password later?
Yes. Open the protected PDF with the correct password in any PDF reader (Adobe Acrobat, Preview, Chrome, etc.), then use Save As or Print to PDF to create an unprotected copy. You need the original password to do this.
