Can I pre-fill the subject line and body text too?
The basic mailto: QR code pre-fills the "To" field. For subject and body pre-fill, you can use the Text tab and enter the full mailto format: mailto:[email protected]?subject=Hello&body=Message. This works on most email clients but the QR code will be denser due to the extra data.
Will it work with any email app?
Yes. The mailto: protocol is a universal standard supported by Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, Yahoo Mail, and virtually every email client on every platform. The device opens whichever email app the user has set as their default.
Can I encode multiple email addresses in one QR code?
For a single recipient, use the Email tab directly. For multiple recipients, use the Text tab with the format: mailto:[email protected],[email protected]. Most email clients will populate all addresses in the "To" field when the mailto link supports multiple addresses.
Is this different from just printing my email address?
Significantly. A printed email address requires the reader to manually type it into their email app — which introduces typos and delays. A QR code opens the email app instantly with your address already filled in. Studies show QR-triggered actions convert at much higher rates than manual entry.
Does it work offline?
The QR code itself works offline — scanning it opens the email app with your address filled in. However, actually sending the email requires an internet connection. The user can compose their message offline and it will send when they reconnect.
